Built by the community, for the community.

Improving healthcare delivery and patient experience.

about
In 2001, McMaster University’s Department of Family Medicine created OSCAR (Open Source Clinical Application Resource), a nimble, open-source, browser-based, and extremely versatile EMR.
2001
OSCAR was first developed on a foundation of collaboration to create an EMR that focused on better experiences for clinicians, provided better care for patients, and drove positive health outcomes. Throughout its history, OSCAR has grown and been shaped by its passionate community of clinicians, developers, and academics who have tirelessly worked to improve it.
Over the years, the EMR industry has evolved under forces from physicians, governing bodies and a dynamic technology space that has seen tremendous change in how EMRs are made, delivered and supported. Under these market pressures, several independent OSCAR service providers created businesses developing and supporting branches of the core code. These businesses provided excellent services for users but lacked scalability in a very dynamic technology space.
WELL Health saw a variety of innovations being created in the OSCAR community and, in 2020 recognized an opportunity to start bringing together those innovations to deliver them more widely to all OSCAR users. With the acquisition of KAI Innovations, OSCAR Pro was born.
2020
Since then, WELL Health has acquired and integrated the best of OSCAR community innovators, including Juno EMR, IndiviCare, and Trinity Healthcare Technologies, to create a powerful, stable and secure EMR platform. WELL Health has further continued to invest in these acquisitions to support consolidating several branches of code into OSCAR Pro EMR to enable physicians to manage their patients better and deliver high-quality experiences.
Because WELL Health knows that just like patients, no two clinics are exactly the same, WELL Health has further invested in building out an integration engine that supports a strong suite of applications to help clinics in a variety of ways.
Today OSCAR Pro is one of the most used EMRs in the country and is backed by an organization dedicated to improving the health of Canadians.
